
The city of Zamboanga are now serving five shopping malls and ongoing big companies proposal to invest the city of Zamboanga
which has been known as the center of commerce in Western Mindanao. Zamboanga City is surrounded by various department
stores, supermarkets and retail stores. The first shopping mall in Zamboanga Peninsula region in the 1980s was the Alta Mall,
of Zamboanga City. It was converted into a barter center after most of the shops are closed. Alta Mall was closed in 1996 and
remained vacant at the present time. Formerly owned by Shoppers' Chain of Stores Inc. based in Zamboanga City Business
District. In mid-1990s the company was divided into two companies: the Huylian Development Corporation and ACLEM
Properties, Inc. after the owner's death. Shoppers' Mall owned by the Shoppers' Chain of Stores, Inc. (Huylian Development
Corporation) located between Ledesma St. and Climaco Avenue, Zamboanga City. The 10-story commercial complex id to be

2. Paagdian City Malls
The first major shopping center in Zamboanga del Sur is the Peoples' Plaza in Pagadian City. The current investor in Pagadian
is the Gaisano Group, Gaisano Capital Pagadian is the biggest mall in Zamboanga Peninsula. Best Emporium a dominant retail
owner in Zamboanga, has now its own mall in Pagadian, The Best Emporium Megamall it is large as Gaisano Capital.
At present the local government is constructing a new multi-million shopping mall in Pagadian, with a total budget of 500 million
the mall is also developed as a regional offices in Pagadian, it will be called Pagadian shopping Mall.

3. Zamboanga del Norte (ZANORTE) Malls
In Zamboanga de Norte, the new mall operator that has opened its door to the public is the Lee Plaza City Central in the capital
city of Dipolog own by Dynamic Development Corporation, a Dumaguete based company. Gaisano is also set to construct a
mall in the city in the year 2009 and mall operators SM and Robinsons have scouted lands in the city where they planned to
construct their malls soon as these two giant mall operators saw the business potential of the city with its immediacy to the
cities of Dumaguete, Oroquieta, Ozamiz and Pagadian. Its twin city, the Shrine City of Dapitan is also having its major
development in retail industry due to increased in tourists’ arrival. The Shrine City's prime commercial complex, Gloria de
Dapitan is undertaking a major expansion with the development of new investments like the under construction Teatro de
Dapitan which is proposed to have 2 cinemas, a BPO office, supermarket, Jollibee, Tokyo-Tokyo, Mc Donalds, Chowking, KFC,
Figaro Coffee Shop and a lot more with its leasable spaces. New food kiosks were also constructed inside the complex as
investors anticipate increase tourists arrival in the complex with the opening of a theme park, Fantasy Land on April 2009. |
